Ever since I was young, my mom instilled in me the importance of good skin care. I remember her taking me to the beauty department when I was a teenager and buying me the Clinique skin care range. It was all the rage with my friends during middle school. I can still distinctly recall the smell of the yellow glass bottles of lotion. Do you know what I’m talking about? As soon as I hit puberty, so the pimples hit my face. For several years, I suffered from acne which really affected my self-confidence. My overly oil skin didn’t do my face any favors; it only seemed to exasperate my pizza face. Thankfully, with the help of a dermatologist, I eventually got things under control. Nowadays, the odd pimple might surface but overall, my skin is pretty clear. I attribute this mostly to a good-quality skin care regimen and balanced diet.
Now, I’m not one to get dolled up everyday, but I do enjoy the femininity and added confidence boost that come with applying a little make-up. When I lived in the States, I was obsessed with the beauty store, Sephora. I was introduced to this cosmetic dreamland when I was a teenager during a weekend trip to New York City with my mom for my sixteenth birthday. (What a way to celebrate!) When the store later opened in Nashville, my bank account was in trouble. I loved browsing the aisles and trying on the testers, always leaving with a new find. These days, my frequency to make-up stores has drastically decreased, but I still love discovering a new lip gloss shade or make-up range.
I don’t even own concealer or foundation for two main reasons—-I like my skin to breathe and I have little clue how to apply them properly. You’d think my modeling days would have amplified my make-up skills. Eh, not so much! Although I might not have the skills to apply eyeliner straight or fill in my brows perfectly or match the right shade of foundation to my skin, I enjoy experimenting with make-up looks. I usually keep my look very simple, fresh and minimal. When I do wear make-up, maybe 1-2 times a week, my staples are primer, bronzer, blush and mascara.
Today, I wanted to mix up the Mariposa Must-Have monthly feature by recording my first ever video blog! This month, I have some very girlie things to share with you: my current favorite beauty products. So, let’s get to it!
I hope you enjoyed the video. I’m just really pumped that I’ve finally stepped up my blogging game and figured out how to do this, goofy mistakes and all! : )
